Do any of these sentiments strike a chord for you?
I see why managers get paid so much. Dealing with personnel issues is so complicated.
Working for them is a primary factor in my work satisfaction.
I have to find a new job–I don’t trust my current boss and I don’t know what they are saying behind my back.
Everything is always on fire on our team–priorities are changing, goals are shifting, and responsibilities aren’t clear.
Leading a group of people is incredibly complicated, whether you manage one person or have hundreds of people underneath you in the organizational hierarchy. Bosses are a primary reason people stay at their jobs, and they are a primary reason people leave their jobs.
Effective management means your team is successful-goals are met, metrics are surpassed, work product is outstanding. As Christians, we should work diligently to be effective managers. At the same time, we are also held to an additional standard–God’s standard for our actions at work. Effective and faithful managers go beyond getting results from their teams; they lead with wisdom, respond with care, and create teams that grow together.
Every manager exists within a larger organizational structure, and they have varying levels of influence over that structure–this makes the job that much harder. However, you likely have greater agency over yourself, the individuals you manage, and your team.
Questions like these may come up in each area:
Self-Management: As leaders, how can we remain grounded in our identity in Christ so that we can show up as a wise, resilient, and non-anxious presence for our teams?
Individual Management: How do we holistically develop the individuals we lead, whether they are high performers or struggling teammates?
Team Management: How do we create an environment that leads to trust and growth for our teams?
Join us for a practical conversation that explores these three levels of management and equips you with tools to take the next step in becoming both an effective and faithful manager.
